Experian is one of the four national consumer credit reporting agencies (also known as a credit bureau) that collects and provides consumer financial records to lenders. In addition to the consumer information, Experian also collects company records, insurance information, vehicle details and lifestyle data.
Experian currently employees roughly 12,500 in 30 countries. They are listed under the symbol EXPN on the London Stock exchange and has annual revenues exceeding $3.1 Billion.
In 1995, Experian merged with TRW, a credit reporting agency. Through this acquisition, Experian acquired its credit reporting business and its databases containing credit information on 215 million American consumers.
Their main competitors are Equifax, TransUnion, and Dun & Bradstreet.
Experian is mostly governed under the (FCRA) Fair Credit Reporting Act and also the (FACTA) Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act.
